Summer’s coming…
Well, it appears as if summer is finally coming. How is your 2024 going so far? I hope it is going well. I’ve had a few setbacks to deal with, I’m afraid. First, my eldest sister Susan died very suddenly. She was thirteen years older than me, and we’ve lived 500 miles apart for almost thirty years, but she was a significant presence in my childhood, and I have fond memories of her. And then my darling friend June Russell passed away after a brief but horrible fight with cancer. She was brave and courageous the entire time, and we talked most days via messenger. Her loss from my daily life has been huge for me. As for my husband, well, it appears his health is determined to be up and down. He’s managing to keep a brave face on it, and for the most part, it’s not affecting him in any meaningful way, but we’re just hoping for better days soon.
Anyway, enough of that; I think we all feel the same way; we don’t want those we’ve left behind to be sad when we’re gone. I know I certainly wouldn’t, so we must do what we can to move forward while honouring their memory. I’m trying to at least…
So, for now, I have begun a new story. It’s actually the second Les Enquêteurs story, and it is called Above. Lies. Below.’ This one has gone through quite a few changes as I’ve planned; it had a different title to begin with. You’ll also notice it is technically my first book title in English! After the first LE story was ‘Josef’, I thought giving them a little quirk to differentiate themselves from my other series might be nice. Right now, my thoughts have turned to the next story, which will be called ‘Bertram Hervé’s Final Case.’ We already know Bertram, having met him in the Hugo prequel trilogy and now his story comes full circle. I’m particularly excited about this story because it will allow me to bring Hugo and Coco to work alongside Bertram and Caspar from the LE team. This was always my dream, and why I created the LE series in the first place so that I could sometimes have cross-over stories. It’s all early days, so there’s not much else I can say about it at this stage.
Other than that, I have been keeping myself busy. When life has been challenging this last year, I’ve kept going, and now I have five completed books. Up next is ‘Quatre Pièces.’ I’ll write more about that next time before its June release. I just wanted to say bonjour and let you know I am thinking of you all.
Until then, take care of yourself and tell the people in your life how much they mean to you.
